Visiting a church can be intimidating, especially if its something new for you. What's the schedule, where do I park, and what do I wear are just the beginning. Once you get here, where do my kids go, what will they do, and where do the adults go can be giant obstacles to overcome. Check out the information below to help you prepare for your visit and if you have special needs or questions, use the form below to help us help you plan your visit to Forest Hills UMC.
Sunday Mornings
First, what are the times for Sundays?
8:30 AM - Sip and Dip - We gather for coffee, snacks, and conversation in the Fellowship Hall (upper parking lot, Building C, Second Floor) before we go to Sunday School classes for children and adults. 8:45 AM - Sunday School - We offer classes for everyone, ages infant through adults. Each class chooses its own studies and are places for small group study and reflection. Click here of a full listing of our adult classes and non-Sunday small groups to find one that is right for you. 10:00 AM - Worship - Our worship service is relaxed and intimate. We will sing some familiar hymns, greet one another, hear a message of hope and healing from Rev. Kristen, and enjoy selections from our music ministry. Our services normally last an hour. |
Second, what will my kids do on Sundays?
Children are an important part of the FHUMC family! We encourage children to participate in every aspect of Sunday mornings! Starting with Sunday School at 8:45 a.m., we have conversations about Jesus tailored to their age and development, as well as games and activities to drive the message home.
At Worship at 10:00 a.m. children are invited to use resources from the Children’s Worship table, to ask questions of their parents when they are unsure during Worship, and to feel comfortable exploring what Church means as a child. During the service, the kids are welcome to participate in the Children’s Message at the front of the Sanctuary, or to stay and listen in their seats with their parents. Following the Children’s Message, children ages 3-9 are encouraged to go to Wonder Worship, a worship experience that dives deeper into bible lessons on a kid friendly level while parents are experiencing the sermon, and can be picked up from the Wonder Worship room in the Children’s hallway after the service. A nursery is available in the Day School hallway for children under 3. All children are always welcome to stay with their parents for the entirety of the service if they are more comfortable! If you are unsure of where to go at any point, any church member, usher, or staff member will be more than happy to show you the way! |
Third, what do I wear and where do I park?
We are not concerned about fashion sense at Forest Hills UMC. We have people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and economic statuses. Our hope is that our folks will spend more time preparing their hearts for worship and fellowship and will dress comfortably as they are to worship authentically. We have ample parking for our Sunday morning activities, but there are a couple of tips to make it convenient for you depending on the activities you wish to attend: If you plan on attending our Sunday morning worship service, park in the lower parking lot - the first one you come to upon entering our campus. Handicap and visitor spaces are located right by the front door, or there is a covered pull-through for rainy days. (Sanctuary entrance just to the right as you exit the car in the pull-through.) If you are coming for Sunday School, going to the youth space, or enjoying Sip and Dip, the upper parking lot will give you access to the second floor of our buildings, where those activities are located. After entering the campus, follow signs to the Fellowship Hall. |
