Scholarships

Forest Hills has two scholarship programs to assist students with their college expenses. Gifts may be in the form of cash, real estate, securities, trusts, personal property, or life insurance.

Checks can be made out to Forest Hills UMC and marked for a particular fund or made out to the fund directly.

Mattie Pearl Regen Scholarship Endowment Fund This fund was established in 1991 in memory of Mattie Pearl 'Sis' Regen, a lifetime member of Forest Hills to provide higher education scholarships to Forest Hills UMC church members based on grades and financial need. The Fund has awarded scholarships to 17 students totalling $76,550 since 1994.

After being crippled by rheumatoid arthritis at age 15, 'Sis' taught school at Hillsboro High for 33 years. She was the recipient of the 1940 Algeron Sydney Sullivan award from Peabody College.

The Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fund managed by a board of directors. It has a separate investment account from the Church Operating funds.

Scholarships are awarded each June for the following academic year. Applications are held confidential by the scholarship endowment committee. The MPRSEF awarded four (4) scholarships for the 2007 spring semester to FHUMC members and three (3) scholarships in the fall of 2006 to FHUMC members.

JubiLee Scholarship Fund To celebrate the lives of Diane, Allison and Amy Lee and their commitment to public education, the Jubilee Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 for deserving seniors graduating from public high schools. The scholarship funds are for students who are in the top 20 per cent of their graduating class, live in the seven county Nashville area, and whose family income is below the median family income.

The JubiLee Fund is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fund managed by the
Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee under the direction of Forest Hills UMC. Individuals can make donations to the JubiLee fund at Forest Hills or directly to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. All donations are 100 per cent tax deductible. Cash, securities, property and other assets can be donated.

Students from DavidsonCounty and the six surrounding counties are eligible for scholarships from the JubiLee Fund. The first two (2) scholarships ($ 3,000.00 each) were awarded in August, 2006 for the 2006-2007 school year. Please go the JubiLee Fund website for eligibility requirements and more information on the scholarship fund -  www.jubileescholarships.org .
